The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) has been around for 4 years in WA, and 5 in Australia. It popularity continues to grow as an engaging competition-based project to drive engagement in the STEM generally and the individual subjects specifically.

But what is it? Is it really all about the LEGO? (no)

Should it simply be run as a lunchtime/afterschool club? (no)

Is it a simple thing to just slot into the curriculum? (no)

Should you even bother thinking about doing it? (YES!!)

This presentation will explain FIRST LEGO League (FLL) broadly, touting it as a perfect STEAM project, as well as from a more educational computing perspective.

The 2018 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robot game set up will be available for demos and play.

Those interested in STEM, STEAM / Integration, Middle / Upper Primary, Middle Secondary (7 – 10)

 

About the Presenter:

Tim Keely has been working in Outreach, community engagement, marketing and education for more than 20 years.

The last 10 years have been at Curtin University where his work is based in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, with Tim’s team hosting two FIRST Australia projects – FLL and FRC.

Tim is most interested in helping to implement dynamic projects that work across schools, industry and community to ensure we have a population that recognise, value and celebrate STEM.
