ECAWA#2025 State Conference Workshop:
Unlocking STEM with Ham Radio
Presented by
Michelle Chomiak
St Mark’s Anglican Community School
Often underrepresented with the younger generations, it can be an exciting pathway into STEM.
In this session we will explore how Ham Radio concepts align to the Digital Technologies curriculum, covering the strands of Digital Systems and Data Representation.
We explore the integration of science in the context of Physics, learning about the resilience of the Ham Radio network with analog and digital waves that are essential to communication.
You’ll have the chance to try out equipment and take a sample Foundation License test. Recent mobile network outages, natural disasters, and technological failures highlight Ham Radio’s ability to connect metropolitan, regional, and remote locations. Join us on this journey where education and industry combine through this increasingly useful hobby.
