Presentation: The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

ECAWA#2025 State Conference Presentation:

The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

Presented by

Andrew Rogers
Teacher: Religion, Philosophy and Ethics
Guildford Grammar School

Artificial Intelligence has become a ‘must have’ tool in every teacher’s tool kit, and is regularly used by students as part of their school equipment. It is a key feature of school life – but how much do we need to consider the ethical aspect of it’s use? What are the key ethical issues and questions that educators need to think about before (and during!) it’s use in the classroom, and as part of their prep work? How can educators help students to realise and respond to these issues – and in so doing – use it responsibly?

In this lively and engaging workshop, these and many other ethical questions are referred to, as participants are invited to see the issues, and work out how they can be responded to. An interactive ‘thinking and questioning’ approach will be used and demonstrated to examine the ethical issues raised – and this approach can also be employed with students in the classroom to help them think for themselves, and improve their outcomes.

Be ready to think, discuss and reason your way through some of the most pressing and important issues in the use of Artificial Intelligence in the field of education.

Intended Audience:
Those interested in STEM, General Primary, Middle Secondary (7 – 9)
