Some of the key topics of the Computer Science course can be quite challenging and can be difficult to understand for teachers – both new and experienced. Information from online sources can often be inconsistent and can sometimes allow technically incorrect notions to be delivered to our students.

A full day Computer Science workshop, designed for teachers of General and ATAR Computer Science will be held on Tuesday the 15th of December, at Trinity College in East Perth.

This course will cover concepts in detail so that teachers can feel more confident in their understanding of these key concepts and how best to deliver to students.

Time: A full day, beginning at 9.00 am and finishing by 3.00 pm
Venue: Trinity College, East Perth
Parking: Ample parking is available on site in the Staff Parking Area
Number of Participants: Approximately 10 – 20 places will be made available. 
Requirements: Participants are expected to bring and work on their own fully charged computer (with their power supply if needed), plus pen and paper. Please ensure that your name and telephone number is on all your equipment and cables.

• Data Flow Diagrams
• Pseudocode and Modularisation
• Normalisation
• SQL
• Networking (especially Cisco diagrams)

These topics will be covered in detail, outlining best practice and resources to use to assist the delivery in classrooms.

Our Presenter 

Peter Harper

Peter Harper began teaching Computer Science 14 years ago and has a strong working knowledge of syllabus content. He has always had a passion for ICT including computer hardware, programming, networking and web design.

Peter’s tertiary education included studies in Japanese, Psychology, Computer Science and Teaching. He gained a position teaching ICT at Kelmscott SHS where he became Teacher-in-Charge of ICT. Peter introduced Computer Science as a new subject and managed to see it grow over the following years. Kelmscott SHS was a Cisco Networking Academy delivering the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) networking qualification to students. He attained his CCNA accreditation during this time.

Peter has worked in the Government, Independent and Catholic systems in middle management and teaching roles. He is currently teaching ICT at Trinity College.

Peter Harper also has experience in web technologies as a director of Perth-based web design company – Aspired Technology, and he is the proprietor of OnTask Assessments, which specialises in developing assessments for WA teachers.
