An ECAWA Workshop – A STEM Hack using Micro: bits
A full day workshop on Friday the 5th of October, 2018 at ECU Joondalup, Building 18 Level 4 Room 419.
♦Presented by Steven Payne (Microsoft) and Michelle Ellis (ECU)
We have a limited supply of Micro: bits and kits to use on the day, however please feel free to bring your own Micro: bits, inventors kits, and Arduino’s to explore.
Teachers are invited to explore the capabilities of technology (Micro:bit), then create a solution to a real world problem.
The day will include:
8:30 – Coffee
9:00 – Intro to Micro:bits – Steven Payne and Michelle Ellis
Play with the micro: bit realise its capabilities (accelerometer, radio, compass, GPIO’s) work with some tools of innovation, servo’s kit pieces. Learn the technology
Create a solution to a real world problem
10:30 – Coffee
11:00 – Microsoft Education – Steven Payne
Examine and explore the different STEM projects that are available using Micro: bits (and Arduino’s if you bring one)
11:30 – Mastering the Excel Spreadsheet (SQL) – Steven Payne
Learn a few simple tricks or show us some more!
12:00 – What is your Micro: bit (or Arduino) Project – Steven and Michelle
Find five projects that relate to you, and your school.
12:30 – Lunch (provided)
1:15 – Work on Your Project –
Choose one that you can reproduce. Be ready to explain how it fits with STEM
Use the Micro: bit and kits (or Arduino’s) to develop a STEM Hack-tivity
3:00 – Pitch Your Project –
What is the Science? How have you used the Technology? What Engineering principles were developed? Where is your data? Or what maths calculations have you used?
3:30 – Finish
