Full Day Digital Technologies Workshop – Monday December 16th

Hello everyone,

As part of its support for the Digital Technologies curriculum, the Australian Government Department of Education and Training is providing national professional learning for several aspects of Digital Technologies. Digital Technologies Workshops are offered by ECAWA on behalf of the Australian Computing Academy (for the University of Sydney).

The workshop is a full-day training session to prepare teachers F-10 to teach the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies. The workshop provides an introduction of the concepts and goals of the Digital Technologies curriculum, as well as providing teachers with practical programming assistance to deliver the new curriculum in their classrooms.

The workshops will involve a curriculum overview, followed by a programming introduction using the Australian Digital Technologies Challenges being developed by the ACA.

If there is sufficient interest from and availability of teachers we will run a full day workshop on Monday the 16th of December.

If you would like to attend this workshop please email secretary@ecawa.wa.edu.au asap, and you will be sent a link to the tickets as soon as they are available. Please note that the course needs a minimum of 10 registered participants to go ahead on this date.

In brief:

Date: Monday December 16th, 2019
Time: A full day, beginning at 9.00 am and finishing by 4.00 pm
Venue: St Mark’s Anglican Community School, St Mark’s Drive, Hillarys
Parking: Ample parking is available on site
Number of Participants: Approximately 10 – 15 places will be made available. Note:  The course needs a minimum of 10 registered participants to go ahead on this date.
Requirements: Participants are expected to bring and work on their own computer with their power supply. Please ensure that your name and telephone number is on all yiour equipment and cables.
Cost: ECAWA Members: $30.00 (inc GST)  Non Members: $70.00 (inc GST)  (if the person attending has not previously been a member of ECAWA, the non member ticket will include an introductory membership of ECAWA valid through to September 30th 2020) morning tea and lunch will be provided

There is no prior knowledge required! Come along if you are starting out or wish to further your expertise.

  • Hands on experience with free, project based, classroom ready resources that are targeted to the curriculum
  • Explore various programming tools available, including text and visual based programming and object orientated approaches

  • Coding in Python

Our Presenter 
Michelle Chomiak – Digital Technologies Teacher, St Mark’s Anglican Community School

Michelle started her career in the IT industry as a programmer and project manager, before becoming a Primary Digital Technologies and ICT specialist. She has also provided leadership in the development of the teaching and learning programs in Digital Technologies at West Morley Primary School, and assisted SCSA to produce some supporting documents and example activities. After three years in primary, she became a secondary Digital Technologies educator. Due to her background, Michelle is well versed in both the Primary and Secondary curriculum, sharing lots of resources online, as well as being a tutor/mentor at the Girls Programming Network events at ECU. Michelle was also ECAWA’s Digital Technologies Teacher of the Year 2019 award winner.

In teaching Digital Technologies Michelle has focused on the development of computational thinking skills as the building block basics for digital thinking.
