Professor Kate Mitchem

Kate Mitchem is a Professor in Special Education at California University of Pennsylvania, where she also holds the Edith L. Trees Endowed Chair. Her research has resulted in numerous grants, academic articles, and chapters in edited books. Her previous work involves the research and development of multimedia cases to support preparation of teachers of students with special needs and the development academic and behavior support software to support children ages 5-18 (http://kidtools.org and http://strategytools.org) in school and community settings. She is currently developing app templates for mobile devices that support video, audio, web searching for teachers to individualize for their student and/or content needs.

Mr Joshua Stewart

Joshua Stewart of Immersive TechnologiesJoshua Stewart, Software Engineer – Team Leader at  Immersive Technologies will deliver the afternoon Keynote Address on Friday the 11th of October.

Immersive Technologies  http://www.immersivetechnologies.com/ is the world’s largest and most proven supplier of surface and underground mining equipment simulators to the global mining industry. The company aims to make every mining and earthmoving equipment operator in the world safer and their employer more profitable with its technologies. With headquarters in Perth and offices around the world it employs hundreds of people with a range of skill sets. As a developer of simulation software and hardware, employees with IT-related knowledge and skills are highly valued including those associated with software engineering, 3D computer graphics, electronics engineering, product management, instructional design, marketing and customer support.

Mr Stewart studied Computer Science and Games Technology at Murdoch and ECU and after working for Raytheon on the Collins Class submarine he joined Immersive in 2006. He now leads multiple software teams, working closely with customers to understand their training technology needs, regularly shipping new features using the latest software practices.

In his keynote address Joshua Stewart will present examples of the type of computer simulation products Immersive Technologies develops here in Perth, and outline the processes involved in this development, including the roles and backgrounds of team members. As a result he will provide examples of compelling and varied career pathways which teachers can share with students to build interest in ICT.
